Clonaslee Branch Reopens
A Fresh Start for Local Financial Services in the Heart of the Community
We are pleased to announce that our newly rebuilt office in Clonaslee, Co. Laois will officially reopen for business from Friday, 20th June 2025 at 4pm.
This marks a quiet but meaningful return to a permanent presence in the village, after several years of providing a limited weekly service from Clonaslee Community Centre. This reopening represents something very important to Mountmellick Credit Union: a renewed commitment to our members in Clonaslee and surrounding areas.
The original Clonaslee branch was no longer fit for purpose, and we knew the community deserved better. That’s why we’ve taken the time and care to build something long-lasting — a dedicated space where members can continue to access face-to-face financial services in a supportive, local setting.
We are especially grateful to Clonaslee Community Centre, who generously welcomed us into their space every Friday afternoon during the rebuild. We also want to recognise the strong community connection that helped sustain our service during the past few years. As a community-based organisation, we share a common mission with Clonaslee Community Centre: to serve local people, support their wellbeing, and provide resources that make life better. This partnership allowed us to remain present in the village and continue offering vital financial services — something we’re deeply grateful for. The reopening of our permanent office now strengthens that shared commitment to community.
At Mountmellick Credit Union, we believe money matters are best handled close to home — with people you know and trust. That means being present, being accessible, and being part of the communities we serve — whether in Clonaslee, Mountmellick, or Rathangan. We recognise the particular importance of keeping services local in rural areas, and we are proud to be investing in that future.
In designing the new branch, member experience and dignity were front of mind. We’ve introduced a dedicated private meeting area where members can speak in confidence with our loans team. Whether you're discussing a personal loan, looking to support a business venture, or planning farm investment, we’re here to listen and lend. This improved privacy is just one way we’re making sure members feel supported, respected, and empowered in every financial conversation.
Andrew Barrett, CEO says; “We’d also like to thank the people of Clonaslee for their patience as the project took shape — a little longer than anticipated, perhaps, but we hope they will agree the result is worth the wait. It’s a space for members to get support, ask questions, and feel valued. That’s what being part of a credit union is all about.”
